Job DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Functional Safety Engineer to lead and support the development of safety-critical hardware and software systems in compliance with automotive functional safety standards. This role is responsible for ensuring that products meet applicable safety requirements throughout the entire lifecycle—from concept and system architecture through production and field support.This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a startup environment, takes end-to-end ownership, and works cross-functionally with systems, hardware, software, verification, and quality teams to establish safety concepts, perform safety analyses, and ensure successful safety assessments. Responsibilities:- Lead functional safety activities in accordance with ISO 26262 and related standards.- Perform Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) and derive safety goals.- Develop and maintain Functional Safety Concepts (FSC) and Technical Safety Concepts (TSC).- Conduct and review safety analyses including: DFMEA / PFMEA; FMEDA; Fault Tree Analysis (FTA); Dependent Failure Analysis (DFA).- Define safety requirements and work with V&V team to ensure traceability across system, hardware, and software levels.- Serve as a core safety expert to support development teams with safety architecture reviews and design recommendations.- Interface with external assessors and certification bodies to support safety audits and assessments.- Author and maintain safety work products such as: Safety Plans; Safety Case; Functional Safety Manuals; Safety Requirements Specifications.- Participate in change impact analysis and manage safety lifecycle updates.- Mentor engineering teams on functional safety best practices. Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field- 3+ years of experience in functional safety for automotive or safety-critical embedded systems.- Strong working knowledge of ISO 26262 processes and deliverables.- Hands-on experience with safety analyses (FMEA, FMEDA, FTA).- Familiarity with system engineering workflows and V-model development (JAMA preferred)- Demonstrated ability to analyze data and work effectively within a cross-functional team.- Ability to communicate complex safety concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications- 5+ years of experience in semiconductor development- Experience with SoC, MCM, or sensor-based systems (radar, camera, LiDAR, etc.).- Knowledge of AEC-Q qualification and automotive development processes.- Functional Safety certification (e.g., TÜV).- Exposure to ASPICE or similar development maturity models.- Experience with safety analysis tools such as Medini Analyze or similar.- Experience supporting Safety Element out of Context (SEooC) developments.
