Job Description:

You will be joining a team with strong passion and clear purpose: democratizing access to silicon in order to unlock customer roadmaps and enable new product experiences in exciting, fast‑growing markets.

## What You Will Work On

As an intern on the SiFive Software/Hardware team, you will:

  • Contribute to a high‑end RISC‑V CPU project

  • Inspect and analyze the behavior of major applications on high‑performance CPU cores

  • Work with FireSim and FPGA‑based development platforms to evaluate and validate CPU designs

## What You Will Learn

During this internship, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Deepen your understanding of RISC‑V instructions, including vector C/C++ intrinsics and assembly programming

  • Build a strong software systems background, including the full life cycle of bare‑metal and Linux programs on a high‑end RISC‑V CPU

  • Apply your computer science knowledge to diagnose issues, design experiments, and implement solutions for real‑world problems

## Academic Background

  • Currently pursuing an M.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering (preferred), or a related scientific field such as Mathematics

  • M.S. 2nd‑year students are preferred; M.S. 1st‑year students and recent B.S. graduates entering an M.S. program will also be considered

## Technical Skills

You do not need to meet every single qualification listed below—if you are excited about this role and meet some of them, we still strongly encourage you to apply; the more you match, the stronger your application. We care deeply about your curiosity, ability to learn, and growth potential, even if your prior experience is limited.

**Required / Strongly Preferred**

  • Proficiency in one or more of: C, C++, Python, or Java

  • Experience with SIMD and/or vector programming

  • Familiarity with build systems such as CMake, Make, and templating tools like Jinja2

  • Solid debugging, testing, and performance analysis skills

  • Experience with Linux command‑line environments and common utilities

  • Familiarity with version control tools such as Git and GitHub

**Nice to Have**

  • Experience with test automation frameworks (e.g., Robot Framework, pytest) and relational databases (e.g., MySQL)

  • Hands‑on experience with AI agents and/or command‑line (CLI) productivity tools

  • Understanding of processor or SoC architecture

  • Familiarity with major ML training frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and common inference runtimes (e.g., TensorFlow Lite and Micro, ExecuTorch, ONNX Runtime, TVM)
